Higher Projects Qualification
What is the Level 2 Higher Projects Qualification (HPQ)?
The Level 2 Higher Projects Qualification is the perfect way to encourage you to extend and develop beyond the material being covered in class and explore your passion for a subject. It can help you to discover the joys of independent learning, take responsibility for your own study and develop new life and study skills. If you enjoyed your GEL projects at Key Stage 3, this could be a good option for you at Key Stage 4.
The Higher Project can be offered alongside other qualifications (including vocational qualifications) as a standalone qualification. You can use the Higher Project to:
- Extend and develop your learning
- Develop your skills in independent research and project management
- Introduce project qualifications in preparation for taking the EPQ as part of your post 16 curriculum.
- Give you a focused structure in which to deepen your knowledge in a particular field.
How it works
The Higher Projects Qualification requires you to carry out research on a chosen topic that isn’t covered by your other qualifications. You then use this research to produce a written report and, in the case of practical projects, an artefact or a production. You can take inspiration from something studied in class or something completely unrelated to your other subjects.
Projects are overseen by project supervisors who guide you through the process.
To complete a project, you need to:
- Choose an area of interest
- Draft a title and aims of the project for formal approval by the centre
- Plan, research and carry out the project
- Deliver a presentation to a non-specialist audience
- Provide evidence of all stages of project development and production for assessment.
The learning and completion of this project is undertaken outside of the normal school day as part of our super curricular offer.
